Midlands Air Festival | 2021

Second airshow of 2021 done and dusted, and this one was at a venue I haven't been to before - Ragley Hall near Alcester.

There were quite a few 'firsts' at this show which made it prove quite popular. It was the first 'conventional' airshow of 2021 to go ahead (as oppose to a drive in display); it was the venue for the first public UK-based Red Arrows display since their tour in the United States two years ago - albeit with 8 jets instead of the usual 9 as one had a fuel leak; it was the debut display for the Russian Spitfire owned by the Hanger 11 collection, based at North Weald, after a lengthly restoration; and it was also the first public display of the newly painted 'blackjack' colour scheme for the Typhoon display team. All in all, a very impressive lineup for a fairly new show.

The venue itself would be perfect if it weren't for the direction the crowd were facing in relation to the sun. The hills give the audience a theatre-like style whereby sitting at the back means your view is mostly unobstructed as you're higher than those in front of you. The light is only an issue if you intend to take photos - you may find most of them are silhouettes!
