Watch to see how Lisa creates a gorgeous fish and discusses some helpful tips and techniques on blending and layering with colored pencils. There are two examples of blending are shown here; 1) Blending with mineral spirits and 2) burnishing (pushing harder with the pencil). Blend and layer until the color saturation is creating the preferred result.

The Faber-Castell perfection eraser can be used to help remove some of the pigment from the paper in order to get the desired effect.

The white pencil is great way to blend the colors on the last few layers.

Polychromos color pencils are great for layering because they don't have a waxy build-up. They are also excellent to use for details because they sharpen to such a fine point.
