King Puru (also known as Porus or Purushottama) was an ancient Indian ruler who is best known for his brave battle against Alexander the Great.

⚔️ Battle with Alexander the Great (326 BCE)

When Alexander invaded India, he had to cross the Jhelum River.

King Puru opposed him and fought the Battle of the Hydaspes (326 BCE).

Despite being outnumbered and outmatched in weapons, Puru’s bravery and strategy impressed Alexander.

After being defeated, Puru was captured and brought before Alexander.

When Alexander asked how he wished to be treated, Puru replied:

“Treat me as a king would treat another king.”
Impressed by his courage and dignity, Alexander restored his kingdom and even gave him more territory.

King Puru is remembered as a symbol of bravery, pride, and dignity in Indian history.

The Battle of Hydaspes is considered one of the toughest battles Alexander ever fought.
