This charming city is the industrial hub of Italy. It is situated in the middle of Po Basin in Northern Italy and stretches across the plain of the famous Ticino and Adda Rivers. You’ll be surprised to know that Milan carries a population of more than 1.3 million, which makes it the second-most populous city of Italy after Rome.
Just like other cities in Italy, Milan is special in its way. It is the economic backbone of Italy and referred to as its moral capital. This city is the heart of numerous industries, booming businesses, and creative entrepreneurs. Every year a plethora of dreamers make their way to Milan with hopes of paving a successful career. Some of the major industries operated from Milan range from textile, chemicals to shipbuilding, machinery, and iron.
As my Milan walk continues, I notice that the city is also a magnet for fashion enthusiasts. I was told
that numerous renowned designers, artists, photographers, and models kick-started their careers from Milan’s glamourous fashion industry.
When it comes to tourism, Milan is among the most prioritized tourist destinations; the city is said to
entertain about 8.81 million visitors each year. Honestly speaking, such a remarkable tourism statistic makes sense! Why? Because, Milan boasts myriad historical and contemporary riches in the form of highly-regarded churches, museums, and historical palazzos. So while you are walking in Milan, it would be an excellent idea to visit the Archaeology Museum, Leonardo da Vinci National Museum of Science and Technology, Naviglio’s romantic canal-side cafes and music clubs, and the Milan Cathedral Church.
The Milanese architecture is precious; it reflects the city’s deep-rooted heritage. Many historical
buildings, monuments, and churches are adorned with Gothic architectural details. Some of the
prominent elements include the use of marble, arches, pillars, domes, and large-scale figures and
statues. Moreover, the Milanese administration has preserved some of the oldest and most valuable art pieces in Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper.
The city celebrates a series of vibrant festivals with great zeal. The Festival of Saint’Ambrogio
commemorates the services of Saint Ambrose; it begins with the lovely chirps of live opera and is
proceeded by an array of symbolic acts. Another event known as the Fair of Flowers showcases the city’s love for nature where many local florists showcase their artwork in wide gardens.
When it comes to Milan’s climate, it gets mildly foggy in winters; the temperature remains somewhere between 0 to 8 degrees Celsius. However, in summer days, it gets super humid. Therefore, I suggest you schedule your Milan walk accordingly.
As my Milan walk comes to an end, I would suggest spend some time exploring the streets of Milan, as well. Its historical sites, rich culture, and industrial enthusiasm will hold you spellbound.
