A few months before the Mayor's Cup, he attempted to play from province 2 in the Prime Minister's Cup ODI cricket. However, he did not capture the attention of the selectors at the time, and he was awarded a scholarship to the Nexus Cricket Academy. Following two weeks of training at the academy, police Coach Manoj Katwal decided to offer him a tryout and retain him on the team. He had a significant influence on the coach during his trial. Gulshan found consolation in the fact that he would not be able to compete in the Prime Minister's Cup cricket tournament. He was included in Province 2's reserve players, but not among the 15 players.
Jha, who made his debut with the police squad in the same competition, did not take a wicket in the first match against Mayor 11, but his bowling was highly welcomed. He bowled cheaply in the opening game, scoring only 22 runs in six overs with one maiden. He was able to concentrate on the first game because of the pace and bounce of his ball. Given his skill, police coach Manoj Katwal offered him another chance in the final match against APF.
