The workday had ended, and I slid into my car, ready to head home. As I pulled onto the main road, the city greeted me with a burst of life.

The streets were packed, but it wasn't the usual impatient rush. Instead, there was a vibrant, festive energy in the air, as if the whole city was celebrating some secret holiday. Strings of colorful lights twinkled from shop windows, and music drifted from cafés and open plazas.

Families strolled along the sidewalks with bags of treats and toys. Street vendors laughed with their customers. Everywhere I looked, there were smiles — spontaneous, contagious. It wasn’t chaotic; it was alive, full of warmth and simple happiness.

I rolled down my window, letting the sounds and scents of the evening wash over me: roasted chestnuts, the faint thrum of a street guitarist, the distant pop of fireworks.

In that moment, stuck in a sea of cars, I didn’t feel frustrated. I felt grateful. Grateful to be part of a city that still knew how to find joy in everyday life.
