According to Shtupun, the Russians are continuing their attempts to encircle Avdiivka. They continue to be active in this direction. However, there has been a slight reduction in the number of artillery shelling. On 6 January, for example, more than 1,000 shells were recorded, while on 7 January this number dropped to 617.
"We attribute this to the weather conditions, because drones cannot fully operate. Moreover, compared to the previous weather, it has cooled down considerably. The number of attacks has also decreased. Previously, there were 50-60 attacks a day, now there are 25 attacks in total," Shtupun said.
The Ukrainian army is using this opportunity to further strengthen its defence blocks in the Avdiivka region. The Defence Forces in the region are always prepared for a sudden Russian attack.
By the end of 2023, it had suffered more than 13,000 casualties in the Avdiivka-Novopavlivka axis. Ukrainian troops destroyed more than 220 combat vehicles.
