Palm Beach beach renourishment project delayed again as hurricane season nears

A major beach renourishment project in Palm Beach is facing more delays as crews race to finish work before the start of hurricane season.

The Mid-Town Beach Renourishment Project was originally expected to wrap up in April, but rough weather and ocean conditions repeatedly slowed progress.

Now, town officials say some portions of the beach may not receive new sand before the project ends later this month.

The federally backed project stretches from Seminole Avenue south to Banyan Road and is designed to restore sand lost from erosion and storm damage while helping protect the shoreline, nearby homes, infrastructure, and public beaches. Officials say crews are expected to place nearly 600,000 cubic yards of sand along the coastline.
