Sony TC 177SD Stereo Cassette Deck Playback Test

This is a Vintage top of the line Sony Cassette Deck made in 1974. It was one of the last decks in Sony's lineup to be designed in the horizontal format where newer decks had vertical designs and could be stacked in a rack with all the other components such as an amplifier and tuner.

This deck is built like a tank with a top quality dual capstan transport , ferrite and ferrite heads (very hard and long lasting but incompatible with Metal type cassettes), Dolby Noise Reduction, Peak Level Meters and Normal / Ferri-Chrome / Chrome type tape support. All the buttons and knobs are metal with the top section in brushed aluminium.

You can see the sticker in the front pointing to the Azimuth adjustment wheel that was used to control the alignment of the record head relative to the playback head, to make sure that the user obtained the best possible recording for the tape used. There was an indicator light that helped with this process. Nakamichi was made famous for this feature as well as their later decks had a computer controlled version of the same thing.

For those interested, you can download the tracks from the Demonstration Cassette here :- https://www.dropbox.com/sh/rblx6amvd766u3w/AADKXfPyV1BcNBIJdG3_WYuea?dl=0.
