Receptor Tyrosine Kinases (RTKs) are a class of cell surface receptors that play a crucial role in the transduction of extracellular signals into intracellular responses, especially in processes like cell growth, differentiation, metabolism, and survival.

Structure of RTKs
RTKs are typically composed of three main domains:

Extracellular ligand-binding domain – Recognizes and binds specific signaling molecules (ligands), such as growth factors.

Single transmembrane helix – Anchors the receptor in the plasma membrane.

Intracellular tyrosine kinase domain – Has enzymatic activity that transfers phosphate groups from ATP to specific tyrosine residues on substrate proteins.
