The 3 Supplier Options You Have When Developing A New Product
When designing and developing your own new product you have the choice of 3 types of supplier to choose from to produce it.
In this video I will explain what each one is:
- ODM
- OEM
- Contract Manufacturer (CM)
Which supplier to go with largely depends on your sales or volume of products and how much control you need over the products (and IP since it's your design), so my analysis of your options runs along those 2 axes.
In the second part of the video, we will explore private labelling of an existing product in order to achieve your goal to get to market, as well.
Importers in this situation often work with an ODM and distribute their product under their own brand, but is this the best way?
It depends on the level of sales/volume and control required. In fact, OEMs or contract manufacturers might be a better choice as you will see.
