Diving right into things let’s start by pulling up the playback chart to see which laptops sit at the top of the list. Then we will talk about why they sit up there and then I’ll give you some feedback on how to choose the right one based on Playback.
After that we will look at 4k export times.
Finally I will categorize the laptops by budget so you can pick the right one for your needs.

Now before we talk about each laptop and what it is equipped with, and where it sits on the chart, let’s jump into a quick overview of the GPUs that are most common on the market and taking over the market (cough 30 series). First up we have the 10, 16 and 20 series GPUs. Starting at the lower end the 10 series GPU is an older GPU but will still be found in the preowned market. These are good for 1080p editing, but honestly, integrated graphics are becoming pretty good lately and we are starting to see they perform as well as that 10 series GPU.
Next is the 16 series. These are good for light and medium 4k video editing.
The 20 series are equipped for larger 4k projects and even some 6k if you’re that fancy.
Moving onto the 30 series, which I will be getting into my studio within the week, I am SO excited to begin testing those, and at which point I will have to film this video all over again, but I figured, why delay you need this info. Anyway, the 3060 has 2 less gb of VRAM but roughly 800 extra CUDA cores. So we shall see how big of a difference that makes once the testing begins.
The 30 series will be beast for 4k, 6k, and I can’t make any promises but possibly 8k.
Now, the Quadro series are an odd situation in my opinion, they are optimized for creator apps, but often come with less CUDA cores and VRAM. You’ll see in the charts how this pans out.
Ok, back to the chart. I know that took a minute, but I wanted you to have some context before we started running through things here. On the left side of the chart the top three best laptops are Intel equipped and have 6GB - 8GB equipped graphics cards.
Keep Editing, Keep Designing, Keep Creating, I am Ben G Kaiser and I’ll see you in the next video.
