4 Years Without My Dad | Creating Peace in Nature and Everyday Life

Four years ago today, my dad left this world. His passing left fractures in every heart and throughout our family. He was the central figure who held so much together, and with him gone, the weak spots have been exposed. Losing a parent leaves a hole that never truly closes—but with time, the sharp edges soften. The memories, the lessons, and the love they gave us fill those spaces, reminding us that their presence still lives on.

I feel him in mornings like this—watching the sunrise with my husband and son in the Rockies. But I’ve learned we don’t have to be in these picturesque places to feel closeness to the ones we love. We can create what I call “park peace”—stillness, presence, and connection—wherever we are.

It’s a journey, not a destination. I’m continually searching for ways to bring park peace into my busy NC life… but the truth is, it’s always there. I’m learning I just have to be still and create the space to notice it. 💚
