GoTo Dobsonians: the Everything Telescope?

Dobsonians are the best bang for the buck, but GoTo and Tracking really open up the full sky to you (reading sky maps and starhopping is fun - IF you have the patience).

GoTo Dobsonians might be the perfect visual scope: big mirrors that don't REQUIRE power, but the electronics are there WHEN YOU want them.

Disadvantages include: bulk and cost. A solid tube 12" GoTo, like the Orion XT12g shown here, is big and heavy. Orion has an XX truss series which breaks down to something more transportable and Sky-Watcher's FlexTube SynScan GoTo Dobs are reasonably transportable.
