Who was Anne Frank?

In 1929 a little girl is born into the Jewish Frank family of Frankfurt: Anne. A few years later the Nazis seize power in Germany, and Jews are no longer safe. The Frank family flees to the Netherland and ends up in Amsterdam. Anne goes to school, learns Dutch and grows up like any other girl her age. Until the Germans occupy the Netherlands in 1940. Anne must wear a yellow star on her coat and Jews are banned from most public spaces.

But they can't ban dreaming, so Anne dreams of becoming a writer. For her 13th birthday she gets a diary, which she fills with stories. One month later, the Frank family goes into hiding, in the attic of father Frank's business, behind the bookcase. There Anne must remain very, very quiet. Fortunately she has her journal to confide in. 'Dear Kitty...'

In August 1944 the Frank family is betrayed, arrested and taken to a concentration camp. Anne does not survive. Her diary is published after the war: The Diary of Anne Frank, about an ordinary girl in extraordinary circumstances. The book is read all over the world and translated into over 60 languages. And so Anne Frank's voice is heard by millions to this day.
