Lift Irrigation Schemes Shut Down in Narayanpet District

Several lift irrigation schemes in Makthal and Narva mandals of Narayanpet district have remained non-functional for years, leaving farmers in distress. Despite the availability of water resources along the Krishna River, the irrigation projects have been shut down, severely impacting agriculture in the region.

Farmers stated that these schemes were earlier operated by the government through I.D.C, providing irrigation for two crop seasons. However, in 2010, the maintenance responsibility was handed over to farmers. Since the costs of canal desilting and pump repairs became unaffordable, the schemes have been completely defunct since 2015.

Due to alleged neglect by officials and public representatives, irrigation water has not reached fields for several years, causing serious hardship to the farming community.
