KIRO 086 : Install Hyprland on Kiro with the CachyOS repo — create it yourself or copy/paste

Want Hyprland on Kiro? It ships with XFCE and a full set of tiling window managers, including ohmychadwm, Erik's own take on dwm. What it does not ship is a Wayland compositor: no Hyprland, niri, wayfire, sway or mango. And it probably never will. Does that leave you out? Not at all.

This tutorial walks through the one move that opens all of it up: enabling the CachyOS repository. Once that repo is active, every Wayland compositor CachyOS prebuilds becomes available with a single pacman install — Hyprland, niri, wayfire, sway, mango and more — with nothing for Kiro to develop, maintain or explain.

What you will see:

- Why Kiro stays out of the Wayland race, and why that is a choice rather than a gap
- Enabling the CachyOS repo the easy way, from the Pacman section of ArchLinux Tweak Tool (ATT) — one toggle instead of hand-editing pacman.conf
- Installing Hyprland, and the honest trade-off: CachyOS takes ownership of those packages, so you are no longer running a pure Kiro. As long as you know that, you are fine
- The config-file prompt during install, and why your /etc/skel dotfiles are already safe in your home directory
- First boot into Hyprland: editing ~/.config/hypr/hyprland.conf, setting your terminal, your autostart (waybar, hyprpaper) and your keybindings
- Fixing a wrong monitor scale with hyprctl monitors — set the scale to 1 and the layout snaps into place

The honest part: Wayland compositors clash. Hyprland, niri and wayfire will not happily coexist, so pick one, learn it, and make it yours rather than stacking all of them at once.

From there it is in your hands. The real depth lives in the community dotfile projects — ML4W, JakooLit and end-4 all publish complete, pre-configured Hyprland setups on GitHub. Grab the code, read what they wrote, open an issue or a pull request, and make Kiro plus Hyprland the best system there is.
