As attractive as many of these planes are in the purchase price, it’s important to also think about the maintenance cost to fly these used older airplanes. 1. Missing logbooks - this is when maintenance records are missing from the logbook of the aircraft
2. Rust/corrosion - older airplanes are generally constructed with metal which is susceptible to rust overtime. Many ADs have been issued for older aircraft for safety precautions.
3. Old avionics - avionics upgrade are not cheap, and if you bought an older airplane, get ready to cough out some big bucks to upgrade your avionics.
4. Parts Obsolescence - airplane manufacturers tend to go out of business often and in some cases, they stop manufacturing your specific make and model. This makes getting parts very challenging.
5. Engine overhaul - this is one big expense you must look forward to if you buy and older aircraft with very little time left on the engine.
