We’ve covered several airplanes on the channel. Many entry level planes you can buy for $40,000 or less. As attractive as many of these planes are in the purchase price, it’s important to also think about the maintenance cost to fly these used older airplanes. This video covers 5 of the most common problems any pilot owner can encounter with buying and older plane.
1. Missing logbooks - this is when maintenance records are missing from the logbook of the aircraft
2. Rust/corrosion - older airplanes are generally constructed with metal which is susceptible to rust overtime. Many ADs have been issued for older aircraft for safety precautions.
3. Old avionics - avionics upgrade are not cheap, and if you bought an older airplane, get ready to cough out some big bucks to upgrade your avionics.
4. Parts Obsolescence - airplane manufacturers tend to go out of business often and in some cases, they stop manufacturing your specific make and model. This makes getting parts very challenging.
5. Engine overhaul - this is one big expense you must look forward to if you buy and older aircraft with very little time left on the engine.
