'I hid my illness from my mates' | BBC Newsbeat
Daniel Nwosu, 22, was born with sickle cell disease.
He has had seven strokes which left him paralysed – but with regular physio he’s learned to walk again.
The NHS says sickle cell disease is "a serious and lifelong health condition". Symptoms include painful episodes that can last up to a week, an increased risk of infection, tiredness and shortness of breath.
Daniel's friends – Alwyn Dorkenoo and Olaoluwa Ayoade – didn’t know much about the condition or how it affected their mate.
So for World Sickle Cell Awareness Day, he sat them down to reveal the truth about living with the disease.
Video produced and filmed by Rae McGarrell and Bradley Harris
