Preserving Cerro Sechín, Peru, an archaeological site dating back to 2000 BCE.
Cerro Sechín is a part of an archipelago of archaeological complexes in the Casma Valley and is one of the oldest coastal Andean sites in Peru dating back to 2000 BCE. From body parts to wounded warriors, the artwork at Peru's Cerro Sechín is endlessly fascinating.
World Monuments Fund is currently working on conserving engravings of human figures illustrating the site from when it originally functioned as a ceremonial center. This work, made possible by the Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Preservation of the US Embassy in Peru, includes cleaning and stabilizing the stone carvings to ensure that Cerro Sechín can continue being a source of community for visitors.
In this video, you can learn how WMF is working with local residents to preserve this unique site for future generations.
