At 13 years old, Billy Daniel Bunter was already living the culture that would define his life. Bunking school, writing graffiti on trains, spending days in the record shops of Soho and Haringey, soaked in hip-hop, graffiti and the very first sparks of 303 acid music drifting over from Chicago.
This story takes you to Groove Records, Soho – digging for electro and hip-hop. Music Power in Haringey – flicking through vinyl sleeves. Graffiti yards in Finsbury Park, Finsbury Park tunnels, train lines and bombing trains. Speed, acid, thunderbirds, red and blue wine – wayward youth, chaos and early mental health intervention before the raves ever found him.
His best mate Anthony was obsessed with the Chicago 303 wave. Billy and the rest of the crew were hip-hop heads and graffiti writers. It was inevitable those worlds would collide.
Before he could even legally step into a rave, he was surrounded by adults who lived it. Within 12 months he was working in a record shop. Within 18 months he was DJing. Within 18 months he was resident at Labyrinth – one of the most legendary rave clubs in UK history.
So much happened so fast. 13 → 15. Trouble → 303 destiny.
This is the Love Dove Generation. This is the come-up. This is the culture, unfolding in real time.
Narrated from the pages of his own book.
