Ocala National Forest with The Orlando Jeep Club on some narrow trails
Ocala National Forest Jeep trail ride.
WARNING : These trails are very, very tight. Pin-striping is unavoidable - it will happen and can be severe! You are forewarned!
Like most summer days in Florida, it was hot. But on this day it had the feel of rain. That will work; it will cool things down and moisten the ground. That means lest trail dust. Trail dust tends to get everywhere. The ride today came with a warning... Pin striping would be inevitable, and possibly severe. I have been down some narrow trails before in the area. Not all the trails are maintained and many are overgrown with brush. We took the YJ, it has always been the Jeep to take to more extreme rides.
With the doors off and most of the top down we headed out to road 49. We quickly took a turn to the East and were surprised that the trail was a little more open then out last visit. This trail is listed as useable by 4+4s. Although a horse might have been more suitable. This small trail winds through some areas not often traveled. A few stops to clear fallen trees and we soon found our self at a hidden sink hole. Steep walls dropping off the edge make for a cool view for Florida.
Proclaimed as the first National Forest east of the Mississippi in the continental United States in 1908 by President Theodore Roosevelt, the Ocala National Forest encompasses cultural history, from prehistoric village sites up to pioneer settlements just prior to the creation of the forest.
Next up is to try and find out how to ride on the Tread Lightly Trail on our next trip to Ocala National Forest.
