Heidi y yo decidimos que era momento de darle a Elena un celular. Obviamente teníamos mucha preocupación y dudas de cómo podríamos mantenerla segura de todos los peligros que vienen con tener un celular, como sexting, cyberbullying, comportamiento depredador, redes sociales, etc; así que, después de mucha investigación, llegué a la plataforma/app BARK (https://www.bark.us). Ell@s me recomendaron ver el documental “CHILDHOOD 2.0” (https://youtu.be/He3IJJhFy-I?si=8TT9RV5sVjh9RY9U *se tocan temas sensibles*) parta entender más a fondo a qué se enfrentan l@s niñ@s y adolescentes hoy en día por tener acceso a un teléfono celular y créanme, es alarmante! No podremos (ni queremos) ser “papás helicóptero”, pero sí queremos tener las herramientas a nuestro alcance para proteger y sobre todo aconsejar a nuestros hijos. Les recomiendo mucho que, si piensan darle un teléfono a sus hij@s (o si ya lo tienen) vean JUNTO CON ELL@S el documental “CHILDHOOD 2.0”, habiliten las restricciones (parental restrictions) de su teléfono Apple o Android (o de plano, denle un teléfono BARK: https://www.bark.us/bark-phone/) y descarguen BARK (https://www.bark.us), les prometo que les dará un poco de tranquilidad y los elementos necesarios para iniciar ciertas conversaciones con sus hijos. Heidi and I decided that it was time to give Elena her first cellphone. We were very worried and hesitant about it because we didn’t know how we could keep her safe from the dangers that come from having a mobile phone like sexting, cyberbullying, predatory behavior, social media, etc; so, after some research, I came across this amazing app/platform called BARK (https://www.bark.us). BARK founders recommended I watch the documentary “CHILDHOOD 2.0” (https://youtu.be/He3IJJhFy-I?si=8TT9RV5sVjh9RY9U *mature themes discussed*) to fully understand what kids face when having a phone, and believe me, it’s scary! We certainly don’t want to be “helicopter parents” but we do want to have tools to protect and to advise our children. I highly recommend that, if you’re thinking about giving your kid a phone (or if they already have one), watch “CHILDHOOD 2.0” WITH THEM, enable the parental restrictions on their Apple or Android device (or just get them a BARK phone: https://www.bark.us/bark-phone/) and definitely get BARK (https://www.bark.us), I promise it’ll give you some sort of peace of mind and the right elements to start certain conversations with your children.
