I prefer to use gizzard shad for cut bait, but I do occasionally do live bait gizzard shad for flatheads. Using live gizzard shad for flatheads is an excellent strategy. Gizzard shad are one of the best flathead catfish baits to use. Shad is an excellent cut bait for catfish. Catchig catfish on cut bait is what many catfish fishermen prefer to do, and they prefer cut shad for catfish bait.
