NEW Singapore Airlines Suites (Double Bed) – Sydney to Singapore (SQ 232) – Airbus A380-800

In this trip video, we review Singapore Airlines’ newest double bed Suites Class product on board an Airbus A380-800 flight between Sydney and Singapore.

After checking into flight SQ 232, we relax in the SilverKris First Class lounge where we have a quick bite to eat from the a la carte menu and enjoy a view of the airport tarmac.

When it comes time to board, we use the priority lane which takes us to board the upper deck of the factory-fresh 4-class A380. On this newest version of the A380, the Suites are no longer located on the lower deck but instead on the upper deck, along with a large Business Class cabin. There are also now 6 Suites instead of 12, and the Suites flank a single aisle in the middle of the cabin. The coveted double beds can be had only if paired Suites 1A/2A or 1F/2F are booked. In the video, we review the new Suites product in immense detail with a focus on the different seating positions, storage spaces, legroom, seat space, IFE, lighting, amenity kit, pyjamas, in-flight service and so forth.

During the 8.5 hours flight, two delicious meals are served – lunch and a refreshment – on luxurious Wedgwood fine china. The Suites Class menu is inspired by a handful of world-famous chefs and has a good selection of on-board cuisines. Despite that, we opted to pre-book our main courses using the airline’s “Book the Cook” program, which lets you select a wider variety of meals. In terms of drinks, we’re glad to report that Singapore Airlines now serves vintage Dom Perignon and Krug, along with a good variety of red and white wines.

Mid-flight, we also get to sample the lie-flat double bed which comes dressed with quality high-thread count linen, a comfortable mattress pad, a number of oversized pillows and a thick blanket. The bed is a delight to sleep on! Of note, the head of the bed can be reclined up if you wish to sit up in bed. The crew are also happy to provide a bed tray service in case you wish to have your meal in bed.

Unfortunately the flight does come to an end, and we make a quick transit in Singapore before connecting to our flight to Kuala Lumpur. Our verdict is that the new Suites product is a definite success and major improvement over the old product. We look forward to experiencing the Suites double bed again in the near future!
