Entrepreneur Ethan Brown, the founder of Beyond Meat wanted to help in fighting climate change. When Ethan began building his company, He considered three options for his new food venture: lab-grown meat, in vitro meat and texture processing. He decided on the latter because he felt it would scale better and be more palatable to consumers. He wanted to make the vegan plant-based beyond burger. The company was in Research and development at the University of Missouri from 2009 to 2011. In 2011 Beyond Meat did its first financing round to continue with doing the research. In 2013 Beyond Meat made its debut with its meat-free chicken strips in Whole Foods. In 2016, completion began when Impossible Burger, another vegan company, released its signature product, the Impossible Burger. Impossible Burger was working with brands such as Little Caesars and Burger king.
Ethan, realized that although he was first to the market there will always be companies trying to compete. Ethan is constantly focused on R &D but while things were improving he had to switch his focus to brand recognition. There were so many competitors Beyond Meat had no choice but to stand out in the $140 billion industry.
