Back in the days when Legacy was just invented, people were dreaming of things like:
"Oh just imagine if you could play Legacy Goblins but with Force of Wills in it and you could pitch every non-land card in hand to it."
This dream is reality now with Merfolk in Modern.

At the moment in Modern it's like "Why in the world would you ever register a deck with no Mox Opal and no Urza's Saga at any point!"
But hear me out, Merfolk actually got so many new tools recently so that it's now more powerful than ever before and it's an archetype that saw play even at the very beginning of the Modern format.

Harbinger of the Seas is amazing as a disruptor unit, Sink into Stupor is crazy good obviously, Floodpits Drowner is great creature-form removal and Flare of Denial is just perfect in a deck with so many creatures.

The recent update features the whole playset of the new Silvergill Mentor from Lorwyn Eclipsed. Getting two bodies on the board for 2 mana is great for all the Lord effects pumping the little pipsquaks to to an actual board presence while the Flare of Denials love to sacc the Mentor while the token stands strong to be the value of the card keeping us present on the board even if we decide to use Flare of Denial for the alternative casting cost. It's that good.
