Coral plantation and preservation in the United Arab Emirates

In 2022, Maersk teams in the United Arab Emirates got together to sponsor a marine conservation programme with Freestyle Divers to plant coral along the coast of Fujairah🤿 Today, Amal (Arabic for 'hope'), our Maersk coral structure, has become a habitat for seven different types of coral, which has attracted a variety of marine species to the area🦐🐟🦀

James Campbell, Fresstyle Divers Marine Biologist and Head of the Conservation Programme, tells more about this remarkable programme and the crucial role corals play in the ecosystem in this video🌊

Following the great outcome of our sponsorship, Freestyle Divers is now embarking on a bigger plan to plant an area of 30 kilometres with the support of the sponsoring communities and organisations🤝🏼

For this purpose, James Campbell will be training our certified diving colleagues in the United Arab Emirates to plant the coral themselves and support the propagation of this important species💚
