India is witnessing a severe second wave of Covid-19 and many states are struggling to cope with the rising Coronavirus numbers. India's most populous state Uttar Pradesh (UP) is among the worst affected states in the country. Yogi government claims that the situation is under control and there is no scarcity of medical liquid oxygen (MLO) and medicine. However, situation on ground is entirely different. Common people are suffering. Hospitals are full. Hospitals are turning away patients.

Kanpur, one of the largest cities of Uttar Pradesh, is also reeling under a severe second wave of COVID-19. Administration claimed that only three COVID patients died on April 22 and 23. But the cremation grounds of Kanpur present a starkly different picture. Funeral pyres are burning round the clock at cremation grounds. To know the actual extent of COVID deaths, Team Lallantop visited Bhairo Ghat Shamshan, one of the largest cremation grounds of Kanpur. Municipal Corporation of Kanpur maintain a daily record of dead bodies of confirmed COVID-19 patients being brought in the crematorium. Watch this video for more details.
