Tidal bore on the River Kent at Arnside May 2016

Filmed at Arnside on 7th May 2016

The channels around Arnside have changed since my last visit and they now seem to be more consolidated. This has improved the bore no end and it didn’t disappoint. The second sounding of the warning siren can be heard, and the bore came into view (using binoculars) five minutes afterwards.

The annoying sound was made by the cord on the flag pole located at the end of Arnside pier flapping in the brisk wind.

Once the bore had passed beneath the railway viaduct I drove off to catch it again at Sandside, which was a four minute drive. I’ve made another video of the bore passing this location.

Expected high tide at Arnside : 10.4m at 13:21

The bore came into view at 11:05

The bore passed Arnside pier at 11:20

All times BST (GMT +1)
