California’s high speed railway is one of the most extensive, and expensive projects that has ever been attempted. Set to cost upwards of $77 billion dollars, the California High-Speed Rail (CHSR) is projected to connect 8 of the 10 largest cities in California. The goal is providing a one-seat ride between Union Station in LA and San Francisco in 2 hours and 40 minutes, a distance of 380 miles. That is only one more hour than it takes to fly the same distance, and the goal is for it to be cheaper. The project will be completed in two phases: Phase 1 will connect Los Angeles to San Francisco; Phase 2 will extend connections to San Diego and Sacramento.
