Artist Reflections Series - Ammar Al Attar & Stephen Shore

Introducing episode 1 of the Artist Reflections series! Featuring timely conversations in the quarantine between US-based and Emirati artists, as moderated by Suzy Sikorski, founder of Mid East Art. The series is hosted by the UAE Embassy’s Cultural Diplomacy Department in Washington, DC and in partnership with Mid East Art.

This episode is all about photography, with an interview between Stephen Shore and Ammar Al Attar. Reflecting on the parallels and departures in their practice, we highlight the use of color, display and format in their practices, and as contextualized across Western and Emirati art histories.

Rekindling a mentorship nearly a decade-old, both artists reminisce on their time producing works in Abu Dhabi and their point and shoot, everyday approach to capturing reality— across series like Ammar’s ‘Visual Diaries’ and ‘Prayer Rooms’, and Stephen’s ‘American Surfaces’ and ‘Uncommon Places’.
