The government is planning for an investment of Rs 50 lakh crore in Indian railways by the year 2030, Union Railways Minister Piyush Goyal said on Saturday. The move is aimed to make railways the best in the world. The rail infrastructure in the country increased by a mere 30 per cent in the last 65 years due to the lack of adequate investment, the minister added.

The two bidders, Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL) are participating in the bids.

These three clusters would entail around 30 pairs of train services and an investment of around Rs 7200 crores.
