Antonio Vivaldi // Cello Sonata no. 3 in A minor, I. Largo (Double Bass with mandolin accompaniment)

I've always loved Vivaldi and his fiery, impassioned writing for strings. I also love how the mandolin embodies the characteristic transients of a harpsichord.

Dedicated to my friend & student Dr. David Hurst. David is a remarkable human - an MD and psychiatry specialist in Denver, David exemplifies the definition renaissance man as a seasoned painter, musician, and professional. At age 80, he decided he wanted to learn to play double bass and as a Colorado Symphony subscription holder he approached me to teach him. Before the pandemic, Vivaldi's third cello sonata was the last piece we were working on before we had to distance ourselves, so this music is dedicated to him and everything I aspire to be as I age.
