Estee Lauder Tips

Estee Lauder double wear stay in place, the #1 bestselling, paycheque destroying foundation.

These are my top tips, whether you’ve purchased it or are thinking about purchasing it.

1. If you’re sure of your shade, I’ve done some comparison shopping and found that it’s cheapest directly through Estee Lauder’s Canadian site, rather than Sephora and at the department stores.

Estee Lauder almost always has a nice gift with purchase, and if it’s your first purchase you get something like 15% off.

Note however that while you can return it, the return shipping isn’t free, not where I am anyway.

The worst price I ever saw, by contrast, was at the airport duty free in my city.

2. If you’re not sure of your shade, maybe you don’t want to hear this but you really should try it in person to buy it.

And if you can, go barefaced and try it on your face.

Once you try it, let it completely dry down.

I don’t mean for one or two minutes, tell the sales associate you want to look at it outside and give yourself a good 20 minutes, go get a pretzel or something, and do that!

Actually look at it outside.

3. It oxidizes, and that’s why it’s important to try before you buy, because you want to match for your oxidized shade, not the wet shade out of the bottle.

I have the shade 2C3 Fresco and I’m going to show you the oxidization.

The best analogy I can make is that it’s a little like paint drying, what ends up on the wall after it dries is not the same as what you might have seen when it was first applied.

4. If you’re finding it looks kind of dry, try applying it before your moisturizer has completely absorbed, and try using your fingers instead of a brush.

This helps add a bit of slip for a more flawless, glowing finish

5. It’s ok to skip it in the winter months.

If you live in a cold climate that blows windy dry air in your face for months, this is not the best foundation.

It can look really dry and almost enhances dry skin.

This is an oil free foundation and personally I find it pulls what meagre oil I have out of my face.

My alternative in the winter is the much more affordable Revlon Colorstay foundation for Normal/Dry skin.

6. Pump. This foundation, famously or infamously, does not come with a pump.

Estee Lauder sells one, but you can get a generic pump. I can’t vouch for any of these, but they do exist on amazon.

7. If you have oily skin and you’re laying moisturzier and then sunscreen and then this foundation, I think you can skip the moisturizer layer.

Many sunscreens, especially the ones formulated for the face are already pretty hydrating and moisturizing and I think that’s enough.

Also, this is a foundation that originated from the 1990s, and back then, we didn’t wear so many layers of skincare, it wasn’t a thing, so you might find it works best with fewer layers if you’re oily.

By contrast, if you’re dry, try bumping up the hydration, add a layer of moisturizer or use your richest face sunscreen. I like this moisturzier by La Roche Posay, I also like this Moisturizer from Nudestix.
