Premiered at this year's Coachella festival, it reached the UK on Monday night, for a run of eight shows at London's O2 Arena and Manchester's Co-Op Live.
The transfer from outdoor festival stage to the confines of an arena only heightened the show's vampy, gothic energy - as Gaga raced through two decades of hits, from her debut single Just Dance to her latest hit The Dead Dance, from the Netflix series Wednesday.
The latter came with a star cameo from two of the show's young stars, Emma Myers and Evie Templeton, who pirouetted around Gaga and her dancers in wispy bridal gowns.
Launching the UK leg of the tour in front of 20,000 fans at this sold-out London concert, the American superstar famous for voluminous wigs and meat dresses delivered a tightly-choreographed tour de force that combined Marie Antoinette-like costumes, Rocky Horror-style visuals, dancing zombies, and the energy levels of a fancy dress rave.
On the first of four nights at London’s 20,000 capacity O2 Arena, Lady Gaga arrived atop a dress scaled like a skyscraper, skirts opening to reveal an entire dance troupe cavorting in her undergarments. She ended her set two exhausting hours later, alone on stage, accompanying herself on piano through huge singalong versions of rarely performed ballads Speechless and The Edge of Glory. Then she went walkabout through the crowd singing Vanish Into You, to predicable mayhem.
