Tarian Panjang / Datun Julud / Hivan Joh

Tarian Panjang is the welcoming dance performed by the Orang Ulu (upriver people) community of Sarawak. The term 'Hivan Joh' is of Kayan dialect, while 'Datun Julud' is of Kenyah dialect. The dance is inspired by the graceful movements of a hornbill, an icon in Sarawak.

The Orang Ulu of Sarawak is made of nearly 30 sub-ethnics, despite being considered as the minority of the Land of the Hornbills. With around 300,000 people, the Orang Ulu community is among the most diverse ethnics in the largest state in Malaysia.

The dance troupe 'Tingang Madang' was formed in May 2014 and led by Madam Connie Layun Laing. Together with ladies from seven different Orang Ulu villages around Baram, Miri; Tingang Madang has been requested to perform at various events.
