Would you implant your smartphone into your head? | Iris Proff | TEDxMünster

The way humans interact with the world is becoming ever more dependent on technology. We use our smartphones for orientation, for communication, to store memories - things that we used to do with our brain and body. Emerging technologies might take this man-machine interaction to a different level: Today, scientists work on technologies that are implanted in the human body, such as brain computer interfaces or smart contact lenses. Will these devices make us ‘less human’? And to what extent are we free to choose which technology we use and how we use it?
Iris is a student of Cognitive Science at the university of Amsterdam. She is committed to understanding the mechanisms of how humans perceive the world, how they reason and make decisions. She is intrigued by the question of whether we can use technology in a responsible way to extend how we experience and interact with the world.
Scientists and companies are working on technologies that can be integrated into our bodies. But do we really want to implant our smartphones into our skin?
Iris Proff would intuitively say: better not. At TEDxMünster, she will explain further. Many technologies of the future will help us with new skills and connect people in new ways that aren’t possible today.
