Soaring Crane Horse Racing

The Veloo Foundation in Mongolia, founded by Julie Veloo, has funded and developed schools and kindergartens for children who grew up scavenging on the garbage dumps of Ulaanbaatar. In summer these schools are closed and Julie has organised to provide shelter and recreation during the summer in the Soaring Crane Summercamp, in the Terelj area east of Ulaanbatar. In the week before the annual Naadam festival, horse races are organised for the children, many of which do not have horse riding equipment, no saddles and often not even shoes. We were privileged to witness this exceptional event.
