Is A Battery Combiner Bi-Directional on My Boat?

Many boaters don't realize that even if the engine on their boat is running, the battery can still be depleted. If you are running navigation gear while trolling with downriggers, the draw can exceed the charge.

With that in mind, Dan asks, "I have an 18-foot runabout with a 60 hp outboard engine. I have just installed a new start battery and a separate house battery for the downriggers. The outboard charges the starter battery. And I have a 100W solar panel to charge the house battery. I installed a Blueseas ACR, so the outboard charges the starter and when the starter is full, the outboard charges the house.

My question: If the solar charges the house and it is really sunny, is the ACR able to do the reverse and charge the starter?"
