El espacio y el tiempo se habían formado con la derrota de Cipactli a manos de Quetzalcóatl y Tezcatlipoca. Pero todavía falta mucho para que el mundo se formara en su totalidad y sobre todo la existencia del humano. Quetzalcóatl por esta tarea incluso viajó al Inframundo y se vio las caras con el temible Mictlantecuhtli, señor del inframundo y regresó de la muerte.
