The 2013 Annual Dinner and Awards of the institute, a gathering of the movers and shakers in the financial and economic world, promises to be a memorable event as awards will be given to deserving individuals and corporate bodies that have distinguished themselves. The awards are in three categories namely: Members category, Non-Members category and Corporate Body category.
Apart from being a platform where eminent personalities and Corporate Organisations that have distinguished themselves in their various endeavours are recognised and honoured, ICAN's Annual Dinner and Awards also gathers together, members of the institute, their families, friends and well-wishers for a night of social activities. The gathering is expected to bring together the crème-de-la-crème of the society from all walks of life as well as key players in the nation's economy, representatives of the three tiers of government and other professional bodies.
In the members category, a Past President of the Institute, Chief (Mrs.) Adegite Elizabeth Omoresan; former Ilorin District Chairman of ICAN, Alhaji Abdulkareem, Tunde Ahmed; incumbent United Kingdom District Chairman, Dr. Coker, James Olugbenga; Mr Adewumi, Iyaniwura Oyinade will be awarded for their contributions to accountancy profession and Nigeria in general. Also, two late Past Presidents, Chief O. A. Adeosun and Prince Abiodun Barbington-Ashaye will be honoured with posthumous award. In the Non-Members category, Mr Osibodu, Victor Gbolade; Professor Oyesiku Olukayode Oyekani and The Most Reverend (Prof.) Adebayo, Dada Akinde will be honoured for their contribution to the entire Nigerian society. While these eminent personalities will be honoured for their immense contributions to accountancy profession, the Institute and the nation as a whole, Chevron Nigeria Ltd; Northwest Petroleum & Gas Coy. Ltd. and Ekiti State Government are billed for the merit award in the Corporate Body Category, for development of Accountancy and professional capacity building.
ICAN, established by the Act of Parliament Number 15 of 1965, is empowered to set standards of knowledge and skill to be attained by persons wishing to become members of the accountancy profession. ICAN has about 30,000 members and over 120,000 students on its registers and conducts leakage-free examinations twice in a year.
Its vision is to be a leading global professional body while its mission is to produce world-class Chartered Accountants, regulate and continuously enhance their ethical standards and technical competence in the public interest.
Since it came into existence forty five years ago, the Institute as the pioneer professional Institute in Nigeria, has produced world class professionals, who make tremendous contributions to the nation's development through its strict maintenance of high standards and regulation of the Accountancy Profession.
The Institute has also been rendering excellent services to various parts of the country through its forty six districts across Nigeria as well as in the United States of America and the United Kingdom. The Institute regularly raises its standards in line with the provision of IFAC, which is the umbrella association for accountancy bodies all over the world.
