Migrating from Terraform to OpenTofu

What's it like to migrate from #Terraform to #OpenTofu? Let's find out!

I made this video in one, uncut shot to show just how easy it is with full transparency - no editing-out any problems along the way.

The process:
- backup your state file! (even if it's in a remote backend)
- have both tools installed
- make sure you're running a clean plan
- delete the .terraform folder and .terraform-lock file
- initialize OpenTofu
- run tofu plan and tofu apply to see if the state migrated correctly

The only error I came across was from forgetting to set the -lock=false flag with a remote lock enabled. Totally unrelated to the migration.

Other than that, smooth sailing!

I only had one provider in this TF repo, #aws, so depending on your setup you could see different results. In other repos that I've migrated with the #k8s and #mongodb providers, I still haven't had any issues.
