INLEIDING
NEDERLANDS Waarom is dit werk van J. S. Bach zo immens popular?
In elk geval is deze bewerking van Maurice Duruflé van het koraal 'Jesus Joy of Man's Desiring' zo uitmuntend omdat Bach een aansprekend thema prachtig combineert met het koraal.
En in het midden komt een gedeelte voor in mineur waarna Bach een stralend C-akkoord laat volgen.
Vanwege het mineurgedeelte vormt dit dan het hoogtepunt van de compositie. 2:14
Perfect en schitterend gecomponeerd.
Maar ja dat geldt bijna (of helemaal) voor het gehele oeuvre van Bach.

Why is this work by J. S. Bach so immensely popular?
In any case, this arrangement by Maurice Duruflé, of the chorale Jesus Joy of Man's Desiring is so excellent because Bach perfectly combines an appealing theme with the chorale.
And in the middle, there is a part in minor, after which a radiant major part is a continuation. Because of the minor part, this is the highlight of the composition. 2:14
Perfectly composed, but yes that almost (or completely) applies to the entire oeuvre of Bach.

Willem van Twillert (1952) studied organ at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam with Piet Kee as his Organ professor, with whom he also studied improvisation and composition. In 1975 he began 3 years of orchestral conducting studies with Anton Kersjes. In 1976 he obtained the diploma for Church Music and in 1978 the diploma of Performing Musician cum laude, with a teaching-endorsement for improvisation. A scholarship afforded him the opportunity to specialize in old music between 1978 and 1981, including studies with Gustav Leonhardt.
In 1976, van Twillert was the first Dutch organist to reach the final of the Grand Prix de Chartres in France.

As an organist, he has become a well-known performing musician both at home and abroad, thanks mainly to his concerts in the Netherlands, as well as in the U.S.A., Italy, Germany, and England

As a composer, he won the second prize and the audience prize at the Hinsz Composition Competition 2005 at the Bovenkerk in Kampen, with his Toccata a la Chaconne for Organ. http://www.hinszconcours.nl/ In October 2006, van Twillert performed the British premiere of the work, at the Annual Festival of New Organ Music in London.
