What was the hurry to kneel down on first and second down with so little defensive penetration in that victory formation?

After UCF timeout on 3rd and 15 1:02 - ECU only eats up 5 seconds on next "play" - then on 4th down with 16 seconds left only use 6 seconds dropping back and falling down - rather than chucking the ball high into the EZ or scampering around - thus leaving 10 seconds remaining with UCF ball on their own 35.
