A celebration of the life and work of Gary S. Becker (1930-2014) was held at the University of Chicago’s Rockefeller Memorial Chapel on October 31, 2014. The speakers were Robert J. Zimmer, President of the University; Judy Becker, daughter of Gary Becker; Kevin M. Murphy, the George J. Stigler Distinguished Service Professor, Department of Economics, University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and Law School; Henry Harboe, grandson of Gary Becker; Stephen M. Stigler, the Ernest DeWitt Burton Distinguished Service Professor, Department of Statistics and the College; Cyrus Claffey, stepson of Gary Becker; and Edward P. Lazear, Jack Steele Parker Professor of Human Resources Management and Economics, Stanford University, and Morris A. and Nona Jean Cox Senior Fellow, Hoover Institution.
