How To Make A Hugelkultur Greenhouse [Part 1]

I make a hybrid hugelkultur - walipini greenhouse. The low slung greenhouse has a 3 foot deep trench between two raised garden beds.

The trench serves many purposes. It lets me stand upright in the low greenhouse. It allows the cold air to settle down away from plants (cold sink). It also warms the greenhouse by allowing the ambient heat from the earth to radiate into the air inside the greenhouse.

The hugelkultur bed will serve as the back wall of the greenhouse and as a nutrient-rich, moisture holding, raised bed, that just gets better over time as the logs decompose into soil.

Part 2 will detail the completion of the greenhouse adding the walls, rafters, roof and door.
