WATCH: Fashion editor Robin Givhan's advice to young people breaking into competitive fields

Virgil Abloh was a boundary-breaker and a cultural translator – a designer who made streetwear luxurious, and luxury feel accessible. Abloh was the first Black artistic director at Louis Vuitton and the visionary behind Off-White.

Pulitzer Prize-winning fashion critic and editor Robin Givhan's new book, "Make It Ours," traces Abloh’s unconventional path and the deeper meaning behind his work.

Geoff Bennett sat down with Givhan and asked how, as she wrote, Abloh was "well prepared to make his own good fortune" and how young people can learn from his example.
