"Flashdance…What a Feeling" earned Cara the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female, and a nomination for Record of the Year. As part of the Flashdance soundtrack, it gave her and all of the songwriters who contributed to the album the Grammy Award for Best Album of Original Score Written for a Motion Picture or a Television Special, and she was also nominated alongside all of the other performers on the soundtrack for Album of the Year.
"Flashdance…What a Feeling" won the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Original Song and was also nominated in that category at the BAFTA Film Awards. It also contributed as a whole or in part to three American Music Award nominations: Favorite Pop/Rock Album, Favorite Pop/Rock Song, and Favorite Soul/R&B Female Artist for Cara.
