What is Osgood-Schlatter Disease?

Osgood-Schlatter Disease is common among young athletes. During childhood and adolescence, growth plates develop on the long bones throughout the body to allow bones to become longer until children reach puberty. When these growth plates become irritated due to repetitive motion, often associated with sports, they can cause knee pain. Osgood-Schlatter can also form a bony, tender bump just below the knee cap.
